Alex Begg began making scarves in Paisley in 1866, moving to Ayr in 1902. We produce luxurious cashmere scarves and throws for the Begg & Co brand as well as for some of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses.

Milestones in our company history


Alex Begg was incorporated as a Private limited company.

1902, 1903

Alex Begg moved from Paisley to Ayr, still its location today.
Fredrick Louis Moorhouse and Charles William Brook formed a partnership to manufacture woollen and worsted cloth

1945, 1964

Moorhouse & Brook acquires Alex Begg


Acquisition of Robert Noble and Replin; Replin moved to Peebles Mill.
Moorhouse & Brook re-organised;
Moorbrook Textiles became a separate private wholly owned company by Lindéngruppen


The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visit Moorbrook Textiles’ March Street Mills in Peebles


Replin Fabrics sold to AW Hainsworth and
Robert Noble sold to Magee
